Our Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Our Mission: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Helena Area Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through construction, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
We serve residents of Helena proper and the surrounding valley, including East Helena.
Homeownership program – Our target is working class families in Helena who earn between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income. We strive to serve families who are unable to obtain a home mortgage through traditional lending. Often times these families are working multiple jobs at minimum wage or are single parent households.
Repair Program – Our target audience for this specific program is existing homeowners who do not have the means to make necessary repairs on their homes. We aim to keep aging member of our community in their own homes by performing critical repairs and making existing homes more accessible and safe.
Helena has one of the most expensive markets in the state for both renting and buying homes. There are just under 500 families currently on the Helena Housing Authority waitlist. Helena Area Habitat is the only organization that is actively building affordable housing in our community. There is obviously a tremendous amount of need for this kind of work and we need the support of the entire community to build more homes and impact more families. Since our founding, we have built 32 homes and renovated many more. We are driven to increase our capacity and put more families in safe, decent and affordable housing.
Helena Habitat is currently building six new homes for families in the Helena Area and performing repairs for homeowner’s with low income. Our greatest current need is for funding to grow the capacity of our home repair program.
We primarily fund our programs through grants, Restore operations, and business sponsorship. in addition, we host one fundraising luncheon each year where we collect donations from individual donors.
The AFCN funds will be used to continue our repair program. These projects include installing wheel chair ramps, replacing roofs and making accessibility modifications for existing home owner’s with low income. Many of these projects are designed to directly serve our most vulnerable community members including the elderly and disabled.
